لطف کیا سرو کی مانند گر آزاد رہو
(Lutf kya sarv ki manind gar azad raho)

ہم کو دیوانگی شہروں ہی میں خوش آتی ہے
(Hum ko deewangi shehron hi mein khush aati hai)

دشت میں قیس رہو کوہ میں فرہاد رہو
(Dasht mein Qais raho, koh mein Farhad raho)

وہ گراں خواب جو ہے ناز کا اپنے سو ہے
(Woh giraan khwab jo hai naaz ka apne so hai)

داد بیداد رہو شب کو کہ فریاد رہو
(Daad bidad raho raat ko ke faryaad raho)

میرؔ ہم مل کے بہت خوش ہوئے تم سے پیارے
(Mir, hum mil ke bohat khush hue tum se pyare)

اس خرابے میں مری جان تم آباد رہو
(Is kharabe mein meri jaan tum abaad raho)


Translation:
Whether you live in this world in sorrow or in joy,
Do something here that will be remembered fondly.

Love is like the beauty of captivity,
What joy there is in being free, like a cypress tree!

We find joy in madness only in the cities,
In the wilderness, be like Qais; in the mountains, be like Farhad.

That heavy dream is a beauty in its own right
Let there be celebration at night, so let there be cries of despair.

O Mir, we are so happy to be with you, dear friend,
In this ruin, may you, my beloved, always thrive.
